Jubilee Park

Canary Wharf

Aerial view

Jubilee Park provides a restorative green space within the dense commercial centre of Canary Wharf. Designed by Jacques and Peter Wirtz.

It was built on the enlarged site of a previous park, and the new scheme was designed to reduce the dominance of the east-west axis.

The park integrates Canary Wharf and Heron Quays, providing access to the Jubilee Place underground shopping mall and establishing a peaceful green space for those working in the area. Currently there are 50,000 people working in the area, but numbers are predicted to rise to over 100,000 upon completion of the whole development.

The park provides both a physical and psychological lung within this highly populated commercial area. The scale of the surrounding buildings gives views into the park from above, as well as modulating the sunlight that reaches it. The designers were chosen for their elegance of style and for their use of planting.
