Regional spatial strategies

Regional spatial plans that set regional priorities, deciding what development there should be, and where and how it will be delivered.

We are working to ensure that design quality is embedded in regional spatial strategies.

What are we doing?

We are working on an informal audit of current regional spatial strategy documents. We aim to assess how well design quality has been embedded, and look at the spatial nature of the documents and vision for each region.

Over the next year, we will be continuing to work with regional planning bodies, regional development agencies and government offices on how to make the most of spatial planning at the regional spatial scale.

We also provide advice to regional planning bodies on the production of their regional spatial strategies, including in the north east, Yorkshire and Humber, the east of England, and the north west.
