South East

The South East has a population of over 8 million and a massive regional economy.

Over 40% of the region is subject to some form of protective designation, so the built environment faces strong development pressure.

Regional representatives

  • Richard Rose-Casemore is an architect, and set up his own company, Design Engine, in 2001, focusing on education, arts and commercial projects.
  • Jon Rowland is a consultant architect and urban designer, and principal of urban design practice, JRUD.

Regional partners

Architecture centres

We fund the following architecture centres:

We also fund the Architecture Centre Network, a development and advocacy organisation for the architecture centres.

Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes (BOB-MK) design network

The BOB-MK Design Network is a forum for local authority officers to talk about best practice, share challenges and responses, provide mutual assistance and discuss issues of built environment design.  This includes a series of masterclasses and study tours.

The network was set up because this part of the region was becoming isolated through pressures on other areas.

The BOB-MK Network is funded by the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) with support from CABE.
