Urban design summer school

Annual four-day event offering professionals working in architecture, urban design and public space the chance to update their skills.

Our urban design summer school is a practical, accessible event, which pulls together professionals and practitioners from across the built environment sector.

It takes place over four days and includes workshops, seminars, speakers and best practice sessions which draw on the experience of innovative and inspiring practitioners.

It offers the opportunity to

  • learn how urban design techniques can help us understand, make and re-make places
  • hear from challenging and inspiring speakers
  • learn through doing in our collaborative ‘big design project’
  • interact with people from all the professions that influence the built environment
  • update your skills, build your confidence and renew your commitment.

Learning from real places

The urban design summer school takes place in a new location each year and draws on England's towns, cities and regions to find new design challenges – using its location as a living classroom. Each day of the school focuses on different stages of the design process and the different scales at which design works.

Skills

The summer school offers the opportunity to pick up new urban design skills, based on individual interests. Topics focus on specific skills related to analysis, design, presentation and delivery.

The 2009 summer school will be held in Bristol from 21-24 June.
